Synergy 2010 has come and gone but what an awesome festival, nestled in the heart of the Franschhoek’s mountains in Cape Town South Africa & attracting people from all over the world from all different walks of life. This year featured over 60 artists over 3 days, some names you may recognise were Hog Hoggidy Hog, Napalma, Rudimentals, Flash, Republic, Prime Circle, FEEDER, Gold Fish….. The Main stage was kitted out by Cape Town’s leading Harman Pro Audio Supplier, Ultra Sound who proudly flew their JBL Vertec Line Array System which is the audio system of preference by most technical riders now days. The Bands at this event personally came to meet the Ultra Sound team to investigate how they were able to achieve such a flat EQ response over such a long distance only to find out that they use a software based line array calculator specifically designed for the JBL Vertec which allows them configure the sound to suit each venue, once setup they use another program to manage & monitor the entire system from processors to amplifiers to speakers. We personally tested the systems accuracy (after one of the Ultra Sound guys told us that they set up the rig to cover exactly 65m) by walking 65m away from the stage & would you believe it as soon as we took our 66th meter step you immediately heard a significant drop in audio level but everything within that area sounded exactly the same, which was a phat, crystal clear sound which even had an element of sparkle!
